About the Author

LAKSHMI DEVNATH is a well-known researcher and writer in the field of Carnatic Music. Her most recent book 'An Incurable Romantic - The Musical Journey of Lalgudi Jayaraman' published by Harper Collins, has won much critical acclaim.. The commercial success of the book was such that the first print run was fully sold out even before the official launch of the book. 'A Class Apart', the biography of the educationist Mrs. YG Parthasarathy has also gone into several reprints. 'Poorva - Magic, Miracles and the Mystical Twelve', Lakshmi's innovative retelling of the stories of the Azhvars released in 2007, a runaway success, has been republished in 2015. Her articles and features numbering close to 200 have been carried regularly in leading publications like The Hindu and Sruti - India's Premier Magazine for the Performing Arts. Pictures of Melody is a pioneering attempt born out of Lakshmi's zeal to take stories from the Carnatic ' heritage to the young.
