INDO-MUSLIM POLITY (TURKO-AFGHAN PERIOD) - A Rare Book
INDO-MUSLIM POLITY (TURKO-AFGHAN PERIOD) - A Rare Book
Description
About the Book:

The monograph aims at an evaluation of the historical factors which have determined the evolution of Indian Political life in the medieval period. In it an attempt has been made t understand the underlying currents of thought and action in the sphere of politics and statecraft on which the state-system of the Sultanate was based. Once the Turkish rulers and the local chiefs, both Rajput and non-Rajput, arrived at a tacit understanding to tolerate each other, political co-existence and stability became possible. The administrative system that the Turks and Afghans evolved and developed had an Indian stamp upon it, for they sought to preserve local traditions by incorporating them in their state-system.

During the Sultanate period the institution of kingship played a vital role, providing the motive force for action and a pivot for stability. Its relationship with the nobility of the time has also been examined. The leading ideas and institutions of the period have been viewed in their historical perspective and an attempt has been made to interrelate concepts and objective facts each elucidating the other

About the Author:

Dr. Yusuf Husain was educated at the Jamia Millia Islamia and the Paris University (Sorbonne) under the guidance of Prof. Louis Massignon and Prof. Jules Bloch of College de France, where he also studied the French language and literature. He took his doctorate in 1930. He was appointed Visiting Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Simla, in 1967. He was appointed Rader I History at Osmania University, Hyderabad in 1930 becoming, in 1945, Professor and Head of the Department of History. In 1958, he was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Muslim University, Aligarh. He served in this capacity for seen years. He was elected President of the Medieval Section of the Indian History Congress at its Nagpur Session in 1950; and in 1954, at the invitation of the syndicate of the Madras University, delivered a series of lectures on Indo-Muslim Culture.

Besides contributing about thirty research papers to the Indian Historical Records Commission, the Indian History Congress and other learned bodies and journals, Dr. Husain is the author of a number of books in English, French and Urdu.

At the invitation of the Education Ministry of the Government of India, Dr. Yusuf Husain, in June 1956, under-took a six-week tour of Australia where he lectured on India's cultural Heritage.
