The protagonist, who appears like the raginis of Pahari miniature, stands by a tree with sporadic branches bearing leaves. She is dressed in a green and red dress but what attracts the viewer is her lotus shaped eyes that silently communicate with the swans.
The artist has taken care not to neglect the background, which in fact is the backbone of this painting. He has emphasized distance by the use of color. The warm colors in the background are in dynamic equilibrium with the deep green in the foreground. The setting sun has influenced the color scheme of the entire work - the sky, the waters and the green hues. The masterly handling of yellow further enhances the luminosity. The modeling of the swan couple and their placement is excellent.
Human figures are generally used to infuse activity and movement into a still landscape; but here, nature is omnipresent, needing no one and nothing to enhance it.
