The two elephants, facing each other, belong to the royal stables. The one on the left is the bull elephant and the other the female, depicted by the sheer difference in size and hence authority. Both are bedecked in silk over cloths and ornaments befitting royal elephants. The female tusker raises its trunk to greet the bigger pachyderm. Since the artist could not meddle with the dull colour of the animals, he has made an effort to brighten the picture with richly coloured over-cloths and exquisite ornaments. He has also used a neon color to define certain parts of the elephant body. The green effect under the elephant feet makes them look grounded but in the absence of any other prop in the foreground or the background they stand out. Nevertheless, it is the technical finesse presented with refined workmanship that makes this painting a great work of art.
