The sharp features of this rather idealized face of the Buddha are well defined, with thin lips, sharp nose and semi-closed eyes indicating introspection. They are framed at the top by well-arched eyebrows. The auspicious urna is represented by a drop-shaped mark at the center of the forehead, and the earlobes are elongated. His hair, represented by snail like curls, towers into the cranial protrusion signifying ultimate wisdom. The three curved lines in the neck have been borrowed from the conch, and symbolize the Buddha’s sweet speech.
